I've ordered a new running jacket for trail running (training and races) and it's got vents in the back. This is something completely new to me, do jackets like this allow rain to get in at all? Would they pass kit check?
They usually have a significant (> 3") overlap, so unless you are running on your hands, or it's windy enough to blow you off your feet, rain shouldn't get in.
