Rocktype Grit (quarried)
Altitude 248m a.s.l
This is an excellent little quarry situated east of A6033 along the Littleborough to Todmorden Road.
Most of the routes are solid gritstone, the exception being some routes to the left of Grinning Arete which are a little scrittly. Although the routes are short they are all worthwhile and Grinning Arete is a classic minor crag route.
The Lower Wall lies hidden within a hollow in the hillside
Warland is situated east of the A6033 some four kilometres from Littleborough. The upper faces are clearly visible from the road, just behind the canal at Warland Gate End. There is parking on the other side of the canal. If this is full go back to the A6033 and park in the layby opposite.
From the parking place a pair of cypress trees can be seen up to the right. These mark the incline that leads up to the quarry. About 150 metres beyond the cypresses it turns back left and soon leads to the lower face (10 easy minutes from the parking).
New fences have made the old parking spot problematic for the farmer, who needs to turn his farm vehicles in this space.
