A fine and extensive crag running diagonally up the hillside to the right of Odyssey, and then extending rightwards across the hillside. It has a great set of routes across the grades, many long pitches and a sublime outlook. For some reason it tends to be less popular than the nearby alternatives of Odyssey and Grande Grotta.
Follow the coast road to shortly before the sharp 'Kasteli Bend' (about 20 minutes' walk from Masouri). Roadside parking is available by the crag signpost. Walk up the dirt track, and head right along the wide track to reach the start of the trail proper by a big boulder. Alternatively (with wheels) you can save a few minutes on the approach by following the road just past Kasteli and then doubling along the higher road to a parking area. Space at the end of the track is restricted - best park where it is wider. The track rises between a couple of big rounded boulders until level with Odyssey over to the left. At this point (arrow and name on a rock), a horizontal track runs rightwards and soon reaches the bottom left edge of the crag. Continue to your chosen objective.
This is a very worthwhile crag that has seen a lot of development in recent months. Some excellent additions. The cave routes at the top end are reminiscent of Spartacus area while the lower end routes are sharp and fingery.Easy approach either picking up a goat track from above the large olive tree on the Grande Grotte approach and contouring round or via the Odessey approach and bear right where you go left for Odessey. andybirtwistle - 04/Nov/05 |
