We had our car broken into at Ringwood Travelodge last night on the way down to Portland. We arrived late and got up early. There was nothing on display in the car. The climbing equipment was taken from the boot.
The theft was carried out in full view of CCTV cameras.
Our rear windscreen and side window broken. The theft was haphazard in the sense that rucksack of climbing gear were taken but other valuable items left.
We were overwhelmed by support from passers by. It seems that thefts from vans are particularly prevalent (we were told a weekly occurrence by some staff) in that carpark.
I understand that this equipment will probably find it's way onto Facebook marketplace place, eBay or car boot sales.
A thank you to The Project in Poole for helping me to re-equip enough to salvage something of the day. Particularly for my son who has been looking forward to his first trip to Portland.
